»Vaja UMD Carrying Case
"Expensive, only holds a few UMDs, otherwise is good."
 |
My UMD collection has been growing, and my storage
options really haven’t. Thankfully, the nice people over at Vaja decided to
send us this neat little case for review. Vaja is widely known for making
amazing leather cases for various different electronics such as Ipods and
PDA’s, but just recently ventured into the gaming market with their latest PSP
cases. I’ve been using my Vaja I-Volution PSP case for a while now and I love
it, but it doesn’t store any UMDs. That’s where Vaja’s Classic UMD Carrying
Case comes in.

Right off the bat you’ll realize that the Vaja UMD
Carrying Case doesn’t really hold that many UMDs. It actually only holds four,
so I see this case more ideal for some sort of trip or sometime when you only
really need a few games or movies with you. For those of you with a massive PSP
collection and want to carry that around with you at all times, you should
probably stay away from this case.Vaja cases are known for their style, and that’s probably
one thing this case has going for it. Vaja really nailed the style aspect with
this little UMD case that comes in any color you could ever want. The leather
is extremely high quality, and probably straight off the cow’s back. The high
quality leather is what gives this case such a high price. The case has a very simple design and looks a lot like a
checkbook. It’s basically just a sheet of leather folded like a book with a
strap holding it closed. On the inside are four little UMD shaped protrusions
that you can slide your UMD in. At first, the holsters are extremely tight, but
even after just a few days of use; the UMDs will slide in a lot easier. When it comes to protection, I was actually pretty
surprised with this case. Applying pressure to any part of the case reveals a
bit of padding that protects the UMDs. This padding is a lot tougher than you
might think. The little enclosures that hold the game in place provide a tough
surface so that the weight isn’t put on the UMD. I wouldn’t say that I’d drop a
heavy book on the case, but it would probably survive a fall off my roof.
Instead of the little strap, a zipper would have done a better job protecting
the games. I guess zippers just aren’t as luxurious. The case is about the same size as the plastic cases UMDs
are sold in. It’s just a little bit thicker. Seeing that it doesn’t fit in your
pocket, it’s not the most convenient size, but it works nicely for putting in a
backpack, suitcase, or whatever other type of bag you could want to put it in.For $75, you can buy about ten of nearly any other UMD
case. I’m sure many of you will dismiss this case because of the price, but for
those of you that don’t mind putting down $75 on a simple UMD case, I can’t
really speak ill of it. I should tell you, what you see is what you get.
There’s not much more to it.
