»Proporta Leather DS Case

The DS really doesn’t
need a case, but if you really want to keep your DS clean, you might
want one. When the system is closed, the screens are pretty much
protected from the outside world already. The DS’s outer shell is
pretty durable as it is and the only problem most people have with it
is the paint chips or rubs off after some use. The DS case by Proporta
is really only for the purpose of carrying around two extra games and
protecting the top and bottom of the DS from scratches.

The Proporta case for DS is pretty much the same as their PSP model,
except that it’s made to hold a DS (duh!). The DS fits into two big
black plastic clips as well as a little nub that sticks out of the
bottom and goes into one of the screw holes. The way the case closes is
kind of awkward and doesn’t form to the DS at all. The headphone, EXT.
port and volume control functions aren’t blocked at all by the open
sides of this case, which is great.
Once closed, the DS case looks a lot like a checkbook from most angles,
which might be good for people who are embarrassed that they play video
games... The case looks pretty nice with the black leather and white
stitching, but is plain in design. The cardboard inside the leather is
pretty flimsy and I had a bit of problem with it bending. The case has
two pockets for games and that makes the case a little bigger and more
awkward to look at when closed. There is enough room for the games to
fit there, but when the case is closed, it looks far too tight for the
games to be comfortable and it makes the flaps on the sides of the case
rise and gives it a very odd shape.

Unlike the PSP screen cover I already reviewed, the top flap on this
case really isn’t that annoying. The leather strip that holds the flap
to the back holds the flap up and away from my hands, but this case has
another problem. The flap’s cardboard insert is pretty cheap and mine
bent on me, so I have a little groove back there that kind of left my
fingers confused as where to go. The back of the case is completely
flat and doesn’t really feel that great in my hands. So, if comfort is
what you want, this is probably not the case for you.
If you’re going to buy a case for your DS, you might want one of the
silicone fitted cases for the DS, but those don’t hold games. The
leather case might be good for those of you who want a simple case with
a little bit of storage, otherwise, you might as well just carry your
DS around without a case.
